Aberration, Part 22
Sparks flew up in swarms as the Aberrated Moku swept its razor tendrils around itself, keeping the Jolgon at bay. Any partnership among Aberrations was nonexistant between these two; in life, they were natural enemies, and in death, they still remained disgusted by each other.
The Moku had just learned to be a little more aggressive about it, now that it had actually been augmented for killing. And hopefully, killing permanently.
The Jolgon backed up and put its primary hands on the ground to help it balance as it brought up its lower pair of tripod arms, spinning them rapidly as an orange glow built up in the firing nozzles.
The Moku knew what was happening, and opened its mouth to release a burst of energy, and it swept through the passage quickly, lifting the Jolgon off of the floor and forcing it against the wall. When the burst subsided, the creature fell in a limp heap on its side.
The spindle-legged Aberration let out a satisfied growl, and then skidded towards its weakened foe. As it drew near, however, its confidence disappeared. The Jolgon, which had seemed convincingly stunned, rolled onto its back and pointed its lower arms at the Moku, releasing twin shots of radioactive energy.
The Moku swept the tendrils of one arm against the floor in an effort to back up and move out of the way, but it was too slow in reversing direction. It blocked one of the shots with its other arm, but took the second flare to its bare, rotting flesh. The force knocked it far away, and it skidded around until it could turn and prop itself against a wall. It hissed in distress at its injury; it couldn't really feel pain, but the fact that it just had a hole burned in its side was slightly more than slightly unsettling.
The Aberrated Jolgon flipped itself over, and then charged at the Moku, bringing itself to a bipedal stance, and letting out streams of fire from its lower arms, like a blowtorch-sword.
The Moku whipped its tendrils outwards as the Jolgon came close, forcing it to keep its distance; there wasn't any part of it that those barbed tentacles couldn't rip through. The Jolgon increased its flames, holding them out in front of itself, trying to get them through to the Moku.
The Moku didn't care about losing flesh anymore; as long as it had its metal frame below that, it would be fine. It turned quickly and sped at its quarry, becoming enveloped in flames, but taking down the Jolgon in a reckless tackle.
The Jolgon struggled as the tendrils buzzed against it, rippling and scarring its metal surface.
The Jolgon got one of its secondary arms free and aimed it at the Moku's head, releasing a pulse of energy before it could react. The force caused it to be repulsed, and the Jolgon got up, following up with another pulse to its enemy's fleshless metal head.
The Moku let out a screech as its heat-sensing organs were overloaded; blindness overtook it as both its optical and infrared sight methods were taken from it. A fatal ray of radioactive energy cut through its torso, and it skittered backwards a few yards, before dropping to its knees, and then collapsing entirely in a pool of something; whatever it was, it probably wasn't safe to touch.
The Jolgon emanated with what sounded like rythmless dubstep, and then turned to find the exit; it had been in here long enough.
Yhana fell back on her bed gently, moving into a slight reclining position against her pillows. She was exhausted from her experience earlier. She had done far too much running for her liking.
"Alright, Kane," she said tiredly. "Are you ready to come out?"
Kane stretched out in Yhana's belly. "You already know my answer."
"You may want to curl up for this, you're going to feel a bit of compression."
"Right." Kane did as he was instructed, and held his knees to his chest. He had gotten plenty familiar with this position today.
The walls of Yhana's stomach contracted around him, embracing him with their warm dampness a bit too tightly for his liking, and he was gently brought back up into Yhana's esophagus.
Kane uncurled, becoming streamlined with the walls of his predator's throat, allowing himself to be brought up a bit more quickly.
He sighed in relief as he saw light again. "Thank you, I didn't know when I w--" Kane's sentence was interrupted as the walls grew firm around him, and sucked him back down.
"Oh, so close!" Yhana laughed.
Kane slipped back down into the larger jackal's belly, sliding back down into the shallow clear pool. His surroundings shook as Yhana continued to laugh.
"Yes, very funny, now let me out," Kane demanded.
"I dunno," Yhana said. "Maybe I changed my mind; maybe I want you in my belly a bit longer."
"And maybe I don't want to be in here."
"Well, that's just too bad, isn't it?"
"You know, one day I might turn the tables on you. Then you can see how you like being prey."
"Are you really in any position to make that threat?"
"You're going to have to eat eventually, and you can't leave me in here for that."
"Alright, maybe you can, but you wouldn't, right?"
Kane heard Yhana chuckle quietly. "I dunno. You'd be getting your 'room service', at least."
"Yhana, what did I ever do to you?"
"You seemed appetizing to me."
"And I really taste that great, do I?"
"To be honest, live prey doesn't taste like much unless they're bleeding or they've been marinating. But I do love feeling them squirm, and you do a lot of squirming."
"Maybe I'll just sit still then."
"Good. Take a nap; that's what I'll be doing until dinner's ready."
Kane curled up again. "Do you get some kind of sick, twisted enjoyment out of doing this to me?"
"I already said I did," Yhana sighed, rubbing her belly gently.
"Can't you find somebody else to eat instead of me?"
"But nobody else within convenient reach is as agreeable as you. And besides, last time I tried this with Dahlia, she was pretty upset for a while. I don't think she's completely over it."
"Well now, she has the right idea, doesn't she?"
"You really aren't enjoying this, are you?"
"Geez, when did you notice?"
"Why aren't you enjoying it?"
"Let's see. I'm hungry; I'd like some fresh air; I'm in a stomach, in case that part didn't get through to you already; I'm uncomfortable being this physically close to someone; and you keep clenching down on me."
"I can stop with the clenching, if you like. And why are you so uncomfortable with this? We're friends here."
Kane fell silent, when he heard Yhana refer to the two of them as friends. Eventually he sighed, and said, "If we're friends, then why are you doing this to me?"
"Friends do each other favors. I saved your life, and now you're doing something for me."
"Your friends must not be very comfortable around you, are they?"
"Not really, no. In fact, I feel sorry for anyone who makes my acquaintance."
Kane groaned, and then uncurled, laying sprawled out and stressed.
"Just try to like this," Yhana said calmly, still rubbing her stomach. "Relax. Don't think of yourself as food. Even if I think of you that way. You're safe, and you're surrounded by soft warmness."
Kane didn't say anything in reply; he just breathed in the thick, odorless air deeply. He listened to Yhana's heart beat regularly. It was kind of a beautiful thing, but even so, he didn't feel like doing this.
"I'm not in the mood for this right now," he sighed. "Please, let me out..."
Yhana didn't respond for a few moments, but then said, "Oh, fine. You big baby."
Kane assumed a fetal position again as the walls closed in around him, forcing him back up Yhana's throat. Yhana turned over, allowing him to slide off her tongue and onto a pillow.
He landed gently, coated with saliva. Yhana sighed; the spot on her pillow would dry out eventually.
"So," the larger jackal said, "no hard feelings about this, right?"
"Right," Kane replied. It would have been a lie if he said he wasn't a bit bothered by the experience, but he wasn't going to hold it against Yhana. She did save his life earlier, after all.
"Good. Because we'll be doing this again tomorrow."
"What?!" Kane asked, getting to his feet, dripping with moisture.
"You're not the first person to be in a situation like this. Immat's got a friend who knows how to sync matter with your aura, so we can get you back to full size. He's on an island we were planning on stopping at anyway, so we'll visit him, and then you can be on your way, once the process is finished. But since we're going to be getting off of the ship again, I'll need to keep you safe..."
"Couldn't you just carry me in your hand, or something?"
"I like to have both hands free."
"You could fall off."
"I can deal with it."
"You'll be singing a different tune if you actually do try that."
"Do you really have to eat me again?"
"What do you mean, 'kinda'?"
"It's not that I have to, it's just that I'd like to, and it's more fun when I don't have your consent."
Yhana sat up, and then got off of the bed. "I'll return in a few minutes; I think the others are back. Just use whatever to dry off."
She headed to the door, and then left the room. Kane flopped back down on the pillow. He was glad to be outside of Yhana again, but he wasn't thrilled by the fact that this wouldn't be the last of it.
